Description
This is HMS Audacious.
Okay so this illustration is fictional.
But design 16 D 38 isn't.
It was one of the prelimenary design studies that led to HMS Lion.

16 D 38 would have been armed with 12 x 16 Inch guns and at 48,000 tons would have only managed a top speed of around 26 knots using 100,000 HP engines.
The British admiralty deemed 16 D 38 too big for the naval docks so the design was downsized to 42,500 tons which is now known as HMS lion.
This illustration is the result in how the British may have acted when specs of the Yamato became known (That's if WW2 didn't start in 1939).
I played around with the battleship calculator Springsharp and came up with this Beast.
I inflated 16 D 38 with another 10,000 tons to gain more speed (from 26 to over 30 knots @ 180,000 SHP), better protection and superb ship qualities.
HMS Audacious would have been overkill for Bismarck and she was built primarily to safeguard British posessions in the Pacific.
HMS Audacious is seen here as part of a taskforce to hunt down Yamato or a sister ship.
Boy this Brit sure got Balls.
A little sidenote;
Due to the recent advancements on Radar technology, spotting airplanes were seen as redundant so during construction the catapult was omitted.
The void left in the Hangar was converted to a Cinema.
Now that's cool.
